Cinemaxx Digital Transformation in the Midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic

PT Cinemaxx Global Pasific or Cinepolis is one of biggest cinema in Indonesia. Cinépolis was founded in Mexico in 1971. Currently Cinépolis has positioned itself as the second largest cinema network in the world in term of audiences, operating in the 691 cinema complex with 5.609 screens and entertaining over 338 million audiences annually with a global presence in 17 countries.

Cinemaxx (Cinépolis) was the world’s first cinema network to introduce the first luxury cinema concept in 1999, in Mexico City. Cinépolis aims to give audiences the best experience in watching entertainment and has a manpower more than 39.185 people around the world to support the company’s mission.

In its mission to bring global standard in cinema industry, Cinépolis Indonesia offers Cinépolis Junior, Cinépolis Macro XE, Cinépolis VIP, Cinépolis Luxe, Cinépolis JOMO & Cinépolis Regular.

With COVID-19 Pandemic broke loose, Cinemaxx is one of many that were impacted big time. Their growing numbers of cinemas has to stop to operate. Along with this, came also their aging infrastructure that needed to be refreshed. This was proved to be a major problem.​

If Cinemaxx has to refresh their hardware, an upfront investment has to be made. Yet in pandemic situation, income was reaching all-time low. Cloud was sought as a solution for this matter.

Cinemaxx (Cinépolis) have the application which run on their on-premises servers with SQL Server. For the solution, we bring the Azure SQL Server Managed Instance (Platform as a Service) for the high-performance database, automatic patching, version update, automated backup and high availability, that drastically reduce management overhead and TCO.​

For migration plan, ViBiCloud use Azure DMA (Data Migration Assistant) to assessment the database to detect issue and compatibility. And for database migration to Azure, ViBiCloud use Azure DMS (Database Migration Service).

On Microsoft Azure, customer can start to choose the small specification, it causes the cost reduction during on unstable condition. Starting from small and will back to high specification when their business operation has been back normal.​
